Love Ssega, renowned artist, songwriter and producer, creates art that is simultaneously emotive,
political and compassionate. On Friday 5 & Saturday 6 July, he brings his vision of arts and
activism to the RSC.

Love Ssega presents ASSEMBLED, a multi-event performance and exhibition. Centred around a
powerful in-the-round performance of solidarity, music and song, Love Ssega explores how we
can come together—be it as a global society or local community.

Love Ssega will dramatically interpret and re-introduce the artistic and civic role of what was the
‘Town Crier’ in some parts of the world and ‘Griot’ in others. In this reimagined role, he asks us
what public unity and assembly means to us, today?

The question is, where can people assemble?

Alongside Love Ssega’s powerful manifesto, ASSEMBLED includes a new interactive installation -
The Polling Booths of the Future - created in collaboration with artist Thor McIntyre-Burnie,
the Allianz Foundation and its research team. This installation gives RSC audiences and visitors
the opportunity to an ‘alternative’ vote, answering questions on what our democracy should look
like. These booths will capture our hopes, aspirations and dreams for the future, and help us to
see areas of shared perspective, disagreement and agreement.

The final piece of ASSEMBLED is the Fête of Britain exhibition, set across the Swan Theatre and
The Other Place, showcasing revolutionary banners from acclaimed artist Ed Hall and cultural
collective Hard Art. These banners, both historic and futurist, from trade union to other collective
movements provoke thought and provide a powerful setting for Love Ssega’s live performance,
and stimulate conversation ahead of The People’s Assembly.

Love Ssega

Love Ssega is a London-born musician, producer and performing artist of Ugandan heritage.

Starting as a pop musician he has performed internationally and had music premiered across BBC Radio 1 to BBC Radio 3 and BBC 6Music. 

Love Ssega’s site-specific performances have been commissioned by the National Gallery, Hayward Gallery, Serpentine Pavilion and Whitechapel Gallery, whilst his visual art has been exhibited globally at MoMA PS1 and MIT Museum. Justice and climate activism weaves through his work, which was shown at UN COP26 and featured by New York Times Climate Forward.

Love Ssega is the Founder of South London arts and community-led Clean Air movement LIVE + BREATHE. Previously Artist-in-Residence with Philharmonia Orchestra and is Chair of Shadwell Opera. Love Ssega was awarded an Allianz Foundation (Berlin) Fellowship in 2023 for art and climate justice and is a Trustee of Brian Eno-led climate charity EarthPercent.
