The Tempest written around 1610 – 1611 is Shakespeare’s story of the betrayal of Prospero; the bookish Duke of Milan. Prospero sets out to reclaim his Dukedom from his brother Antonio with the use of his magic arts.

Our productions of The Tempest over the years have included many famous actors playing Prospero: Michael Redgrave in 1951; John Gielgud in 1957; Ian Richardson in 1970; Michael Hordern in 1978; Derek Jacobi in 1982; John Wood in 1988; Alec McCowen in 1993; Patrick Stewart in 2006, Simon Russell Beale in 2016 and Alex Kingston in 2023.
