OUR WORK WITH TEACHERS AND YOUNG PEOPLE

Each year, we work with 1,000 schools, 500,000 young people and 2,000 teachers in areas across the country where there is least opportunity and access to the arts.

RESEARCH AND IMPACT

As an Independent Research Organisation, our industry-defining research demonstrates the impact of our work on young people’s academic, emotional and social development, mental health and community regeneration.

  • TIME TO ACT shows how RSC rehearsal-based methods boost children’s language, reading and writing skills, attitudes to learning, self-belief and well-being.
  • TIME TO LISTEN 5,500 young people told us why they value the arts – from fostering key skills and an outlet for self-expression to developing agency and finding their voice.

TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Teachers are the bedrock of our partnerships and each year we run continual professional development (CPD) programmes for nursery, primary, secondary and special schools practitioners.

We also mentor teachers to become Lead Teachers within our Associate Schools Programme.

IN PERFORMANCE

We provide young people with opportunities to enjoy and participate in live theatre.

  • Our 80-minute First Encounters with Shakespeare touring shows provide flexibly scaled productions for schools, theatres and community venues.

  • Our annual Playmaking Festivals includes high quality performances by young people, shared with audiences around the country.

  • Our Next Generation Act, Direct and Backstage programmes offer participants the opportunity to develop work-ready skills and stage a professional production of a Shakespeare play in one of our theatres.
