Why did you want to play the part of Juliet?
Very honestly...I don't think I knew why, initially. As an actor, or for me anyway, the words 'Juliet' and 'RSC' automates an unthinkable pounce. But while preparing for the audition I could not believe how much there was to mine in this character and indeed the play. She has so many incredible strengths and flaws and is ultimately so much more human than I ever thought. I think she's really brave.

Why did you want to become an actor?
I didn't want to stop playing. The enjoyment of it all gave me life. Then, one day you discover a version where "this is fun" becomes "oh this is really important actually. This can really affect people". It's my job to be part of the vehicle that communicates these discoveries. Without it, life would be pretty basic.

What other roles in theatre would you like to play in the future?
This is the hardest question! I'm inspired by new writing so maybe it doesn't exist yet?...

What are your thoughts now about how you are going to play the role?
I really don't know yet. I can't wait to discover her. All I know is I feel it's important Juliet is a real person, a real teenage girl and not a fanciful idea floating around in a white night dress. 

What’s been your favourite film recently?
I am really trying to think of a new film that's caught my imagination but Wes Anderson's Fantastic Mr Fox is a comfort film for me, I watched that a lot this year. 

Who is your favourite musician/band?
Ooh tough. Right now, Ben Folds.

Do you have any superstitions?
Not many but I really do think Katie Hopkins was sent in as a device to unify us. Like a bad Christmas cracker joke, we all groan together.

What do you like to do when you are not in the theatre?
Be outdoors, somewhere green and beautiful. 

Who would play you in a movie about your life?
Nia Vardalos. I'm sure she'd nail the Scottish accent.
