To celebrate National Playday, join the RSC for a day of free activities inspired by Shakespeare’s imagined Italy for all the family to enjoy together.

Get the whole family involved with a fun, outdoor storytelling session, introducing Shakespeare’s Imagined Italy. Take a journey through our summer trail with a mixture of storytelling, play, and drama games. 

Suitable for ages 4 - 8 years, children must be accompanied by a parent/carer and also require a ticket.

Sensory Stay and Play - Imagined Italy

Explore our sensory space as you create your own playful scenes in this free drop-in stay and play session. Through textures, sounds and smells, imagine you are in an Italian city or shipwrecked on a beach. 

Suitable for ages 0 – 4 years, children must be accompanied by a parent/carer.

The Play's The Thing - Hidden Stories

A playful exploration of our exhibition The Play's The Thing through rehearsal room games, stories and activities, all led by one of our theatre practitioners. Expect to discover the stories behind our museum collection, find out about the scenes that have inspired the building architecture and how we can all connect with the theatre and Shakespeare. 

Suitable for ages 7+, children must be accompanied by a parent/carer and also require a ticket.

Playful Summer Trail

The Forest - A Place of Two Halves _2025_Gina Print _c_ RSC _399075

Play your way through the Swan Gardens and all the way to Shakespeare's imagined Italy with our outdoor Summer Trail. Inspired by the world of The Two Gentlemen of Verona, our 80-minute summer Shakespeare perfect for families, this playful trail will bring you closer to the world of the play and look at themes such as love, friendship, youth and risk-taking across seven stations.
