We currently offer four levels of Certificate training, each exploring our rehearsal room approaches to teaching Shakespeare. All levels of experience in teaching Shakespeare are welcome on our courses, join us to enhance your teaching and your pupils' learning by exploring our techniques.

Each course includes a ticket to see a Shakespeare play in our repertoire, a resource pack of activities to use in the classroom, the chance to network and build relationships with fellow teachers and opportunities to work with and receive support from experienced RSC practitioners.

Introduction Course

Our most accessible tier, the Introduction Certificate is a one day CPD course, introducing active approaches to teaching Shakespeare.

Foundation Course

Our flagship course for teachers new to using RSC rehearsal room approaches, the Foundation Certificate is three days of CPD investigating three of Shakespeare's most popular plays.

Intermediate Course

The next tier involves three days which delve deeper into the language structures and historical contexts of Shakespeare's plays that make them so exciting to encounter in our classrooms.

Designed for teachers who have completed three days of training with the RSC, such as three Introduction courses, one Foundation course or other experiences such as through our Associate Schools Programme.

Advanced Course

Eligibility for the Advanced Course typically follows successful completion of the Intermediate Course and runs over two academic years. 

The Advanced Course for 2024/25 is currently in progress.
