We offer three levels of Certificate training providing long-term professional development for teachers. Each course explores our rehearsal room approaches to teaching Shakespeare and each tier builds on your previous experience. All levels of experience in teaching Shakespeare are welcome on our courses, start your journey with our flagship Foundation course.

Each course includes a ticket to see a Shakespeare play in our repertoire, a resource pack of activities to use in the classroom, the chance to network and build relationships with fellow teachers and opportunities to work with and receive support from experienced RSC practitioners.

Foundation Course

Our flagship course for teachers new to using RSC rehearsal room approaches, the Foundation Certificate is three days of CPD investigating three of Shakespeare's most popular plays.

Intermediate Course

The next tier involves three days which delve deeper into the language structures and historical contexts of Shakespeare's plays that make them so exciting to encounter in our classrooms.

Designed for teachers who have completed three days of training with the RSC which can include attending our Foundation course or experiences through our Associate Schools Programme.

Next course: 20-21 March 2026 and 3 July 2026

Advanced Course

Eligibility for the Advanced Course typically follows successful completion of the Intermediate Course and runs over two academic years. 

The Advanced Course for 2024/25 is currently in progress.
