We are looking to cast local children in our upcoming production of Macbeth, starring Sam Heughan and Lia Williams, and directed by Daniel Raggett.

We would love to hear from parents or legal guardians of children who fit the specified criteria listed below.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for children to play a character in our production of Macbeth. The role will be shared by a team of 3 children, and it will be a paid professional role.

Children do not need to have previous experience, but they should have the following qualities:

  • Able to listen well and follow instructions
  • Good instincts
  • Confidence in being themselves
  • Excellent focus
  • Willingness to spend time in rehearsals watching and listening to others
  • Lots of enthusiasm
  • Enjoy performing and creating a character
  • This opportunity would suit a child who would relish being part of a live theatre production alongside a professional company of actors

Please only submit your child for an audition if they fit the below criteria:

  • Children MUST be available to audition either in person or online w/c 18th August 2025
  • The character is from a mixed heritage family of Black Caribbean and White Scottish descent. In order to support authentic storytelling and visual continuity within the family unit portrayed on stage we are ideally looking for young performers who can portray the character’s family heritage
  • The character's age is approximately 6 years old (any gender). Please note we can only accept submissions of children aged 5 and over due to licensing regulations
  • Children MUST be permanently based in the West Midlands and be able to commute to the RSC in Stratford Upon Avon. We consider 'local' to mean within one hour’s travel of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre
  • Maximum height of 137.16cm / 4ft 6in
  • Children MUST be available for the production dates: 8 September – 6 December 2025. Please note that children will not be needed every day, but we ask for them to be available due to the nature of rehearsal and performance scheduling. Please flag any unavailability at audition stage

HOW TO APPLY

Applications must be submitted by the child’s parent or legal guardian.

To apply for an audition please email casting.team@rsc.org.uk with the subject line Children's Casting Application - Macbeth.

Please provide the following information:

  • Child’s name
  • Parent/guardian name and contact information
  • Child’s age and current school year
  • Please also attach a recent photo of the child (within the past 3 months)
  • Please confirm that you live within commutable distance of Stratford-Upon-Avon (up to one hour’s travel from the theatre)
  • If your child has any previous acting experience or attends a relevant club you are welcome to add a note, but this is not essential

Application deadline: Saturday 16 August 2025

Any applications sent after this date will not be considered.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

All applications will be read and considered. However please be aware that we may not be able to meet all children that apply as we only have a certain number of spaces in the audition room.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to provide specific feedback to unsuccessful applicants.

IF YOUR APPLICATION IS SUCCESSFUL

If your child’s application is successful, we will be in touch via email with audition details, when we will confirm the time, date, and venue, as well as what they will be asked to do.

We will also ask about any access requirements to ensure that each child has a safe and comfortable audition experience.

The audition will be a group workshop. Children may then be invited back for a recall audition, at which time they will meet some of the creative team.

There will be nothing for the children to prepare before the audition.
