2016 - a busy year for Matilda The Musical.
Not only does 2016 encompass two important literary anniversaries, in the shape of Shakespeare’s 400th celebrations and the centenary of Roald Dahl’s birth, but this October marks five years of the show in London’s West End - Matilda The Musical reaches the same age as Matilda herself…
In this busy year, keep an eye out for the Matilda London team who will be taking part in some exciting events this summer.
June has already seen performances on ITV’s ‘Tonight At The London Palladium’ and as part of the West End’s finest at ‘The Magic of the Musicals’ at the Royal Albert Hall and West End LIVE in Trafalgar Square.
We also staged our third relaxed performance at the Cambridge Theatre, uniting once again with the National Autistic Society and Mousetrap Theatre Projects to offer people with autism and learning difficulties full access to the theatre.
In July we participate in the opening day of Foyles’ Storybox Festival, in August we are part of Kids Week in the West End and in September we look forward to a very special performance at the BBC’s ‘Proms In The Park’, alongside Tim Minchin.
Meanwhile, the show also continues to delight audiences around the world and has now been seen by over five million people. It will finish its four year run on Broadway New York on 1 January 2017, is currently enjoying a hugely successful tour around the US, and opens in Toronto, Canada this summer. It also continues on an accolade filled tour of Australia.
Currently in Melbourne, the show moves on to Brisbane and Perth at the end of 2016 and most recently picked up an incredible record-breaking 13 Helpmann Award nominations, including one for Best Musical.
