Sir Peter Hall, who has been described as ‘the undoubted architect of the entire edifice of modern theatre’, died aged 86 on 11 September 2017. A year on, Westminster Abbey will celebrate Sir Peter's life with specially chosen music, lessons, readings and tributes given by those who knew Sir Peter well.

Sir Peter founded the RSC in 1961. He also directed the English language premiere of Waiting for Godot, became the first Director of the National Theatre on the South Bank, was the driving force behind the Rose Theatre Kingston and directed dozens of productions in the West End and on Broadway. In a career spanning nearly 60 years, he worked with most of Britain’s leading actors and finest playwrights.

The celebration has been arranged with other theatres associated with Sir Peter, including Glyndebourne, Rose Theatre Kingston and National Theatre.
