Our first ever youth ensemble, RSC Next Generation ACT, performed together on stage for the first time this Saturday in John Lyly’s tale of infatuation, jealousy and social status.
The Next Generation ACT company of 20 young people aged 12-17 performed Sapho and Phao at The Other Place Studio Theatre on 14 July, as part of our Playmaking Festival for schools. The play, by John Lyly, was originally performed in 1584 by a company of Elizabethan boy players.
The company is made up of 20 young people recruited from our Associate Schools Programme and is one strand of RSC Next Generation, a unique talent development programme that gives gifted young people from disadvantaged backgrounds the opportunity to gain experience in acting, directing or backstage roles. The Associate Schools Programme is our national partnership programme with schools and regional theatres across the country.
