As the England team prepare for their World Cup clash against Croatia, we look back at our shows from 1990, the last time the team made it to the semi-finals.
With anticipation rising for England’s crunch game against Croatia at
the World Cup on Wednesday, you may find yourself thinking back to those heady days of
Italia 90. After years of disappointing performances and bad behaviour
from fans, the England football team were unexpectedly in the semi-finals, and the
country was daring to dream again.
Pavarotti’s stunning rendition of Nessun Dorma was the soundtrack to the game against West Germany,
where we won’t linger too much on the result… But what was happening here at
the RSC during that memorable tournament?
And (whisper it) if we make it to the final? Well, 1966 saw productions of both Hamlet and Twelfth Night, plays which have been part of our 2018 repertoire, too... And as Malvolio says, "Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon 'em."
Maybe, just maybe...
