Shakespeare's Roman plays invite us to explore lots of different themes and ideas. As part of our film challenge, in partnership with Samsung, we're asking students across the UK to create a film and share it with us.

The makers of the best films submitted will have the chance to see their work shown on the big screen as part of a showcase event in a cinema at the Barbican in November. They and their classmates will also get free tickets to see that evening's performance of Coriolanus.

What should be in my film?

Films will need to respond to one of the following three provocations that were explored in our recent conferences:

• Politics is inherently unfair in a system where it will always be the few making decisions on behalf of the many.
• The art of rhetoric has no power or place in modern politics. 
• The qualities we admire in male leaders are seen as negative in women. 

What else do I need to know?

Films should be no longer than 5 minutes and submitted to us by Wednesday 18 October 2017 - more information including a Film Challenge Guide can be found at the link below.

The Film Challenge is the latest element of our digital education partnership with Samsung, which kicked off earlier this year with our For the Good of Rome conference series. Students attending the conferences were also invited to take part in a Makers' Lab with Samsung and the RSC.

Across the day, young people worked with RSC directors and actors as well as 360 filmmakers and tech experts from Samsung, to explore how stories are structured and told through theatre and on film using the latest cutting edge mobile technology such as 360 cameras and Virtual Reality.
